About you and this role

We are looking for you, an ambitious master’s student (m/f), to support Dow Silicones business by doing an internship project on silicones antifoams for our location in Seneffe, Belgium.

The department that will welcome you is the Product Development group for Emulsions, Blends and Powders specialized in the development of silicones antifoams and emulsions used in a broad range of applications: detergents, hair shampoos and conditioners, skin care, construction chemicals, pulp washing, textile, coatings, and leather.

If you are interested to support Dow in finding new ways to tackle challenges in silicone antifoams, join our team in Seneffe!

Responsibilities

Silicones are well-known foam control agents used in various industries (detergency, pulp & paper, coatings, etc). This internship will focus on the characterization of the behavior of these antifoams in function of parameters such as temperature and shear in a given foaming media. The characterization will include interfacial measurements and observations techniques, together with some performance measurement. Relationship between characterization results and performance data will need to be established, and guidelines to achieve optimum performance proposed.
The intern will spend most of his/her time in the laboratory experimenting formulations and application testing, optimizing characterization techniques, while consolidating the project with literature searches to validate technical hypothesis. The intern will review the results with the antifoam team regularly and present the findings to a larger audience at the end of the internship.
