We are looking for you, an ambitious master’s student (m/f), to support our Dow Silicones business by doing an internship project in improved silicone emulsions for optimized paper coatings, for our location in Seneffe, Belgium.
The department that will welcome you is developing innovative silicone coatings that are used throughout the world to provide release (anti-stick) and hydrophobic properties to paper and film substrates in many applications. More information about Dow silicone technology for release coatings can be found at: https://consumer.dow.com/en-us/industry/ind-films-tapes-release-liners.html
We are continuously striving to expand the capabilities of our coatings, and this project aims at the optimization of silicone emulsions used for example in the manufacturing of bakery papers. The project will focus on the development and optimization of new silicone emulsions for implementation in faster speed industrial coating processes.
The work will involve:
Preparation of aqueous silicone emulsions (formulation).
Characterization of the emulsions.
Coating on different substrates.
Application testing & performance measurements.
During the stay, the intern will be interacting with experts from mainly Product Development but also Technical Service and Analytical.
You are currently studying for a master’s degree (2nd or last year) or equivalent in Chemistry or Material Science. Any knowledge related to formulation science or silicone chemistry is a plus.
You have a good working knowledge of English. French language is a plus.
You have experience in working in a lab and have an interest in formulation. Safety is our top priority, other desired attributes are critical thinking, troubleshooting and organization. An individual contributor that is also a good team player is required.
The candidate should demonstrate a passion for chemistry and applying innovative ideas.
You can start between February and May 2024 for a period of 4-6 months (exact timing to be discussed).
You are keen on identifying and driving opportunities for (future) improvements.
