Qualifications

You are currently studying for a Master’s Degree or equivalent in Chemistry or Material Science. Any knowledge related to formulation science or silicone chemistry is a plus.
You have a good working knowledge of English. You have experience working in a lab and have an interest in formulation. Safety is our top priority, other desired attributes are critical thinking, troubleshooting, and organization. An individual contributor that is also a good team player is required.
The candidate should demonstrate a passion for chemistry and applying innovative ideas.
This offer is not limited to graduation year students, more junior candidates will also be considered, based on talents and competencies.
You can start between February and May 2023 for a period of 6 months (exact timing to be discussed).

Research & Development Internship – Improved Hydrophobization from Silicone Emulsions

We are looking for you, an ambitious master’s student (m/f), to support Dow Silicones’ business by doing an internship project on silicone emulsions for our location in Seneffe, Belgium.

The department that will welcome you is Product Development for Emulsions, Blends and Powders specialized in the development of silicones antifoams and emulsions used in a broad range of applications: detergents, hair shampoos and conditioners, skin care, construction chemicals, pulp washing, textile, coatings, and leather.

Project description

Silicones are used throughout the world to hydrophobize surfaces and provide benefits such as material longevity, thermal insulation, and water-repellant surfaces amongst others. Delivering the benefit in water-based systems requires optimized systems.

During this training period,the selected candidate will investigate new emulsion systems and work on their formation, characterization, and formulation in various applications from cosmetics to paints.

The intern will review the results with the emulsions team regularly and present the findings to a larger audience at the end of the internship.
